Food that is suitable for your dog

All of us who love our pets try to prepare some fresh food for our dogs as and when the time permits. It certainly gives some variety to your dog which is always fed out of packets. Our dog too will love this occasional treat. Sometimes when we try to offer our dog a healthier meal we include certain wrong ingredients or wrong food items in our recipe thinking that our dog will love it. This is done out of total ignorance and this can ruin the health of our dog on the long run.

So before you prepare food for your dog make sure to either consult your veterinarian about the food items to be avoided or refer a good book on pet food. However, there are some common food items that you must avoid:

Onions

We cannot do without onion for human recipes as they bring in a great flavor to the dish. So we presume that it will also make the dog food taste better and add a whole lot of onions like we do while cooking for ourselves. Veterinarians suggest that onion should be totally avoided in canine food as it leads to Heinz body anemia. If right care is not provided at the right time this can lead to serious form of anemia. So it is always best to avoid onion in your dog’s recipe. Alternatively, you can add chunks of onion that can be removed before you serve the food so the food will have a gentle flavor at the same time it will not affect the dog’s blood stream.

Chicken Bones

It is common knowledge that you must not add chicken bones to your dog’s recipe because unlike animal bones, birds’ bones form splinters when they break. This can tear your dog’s intestine leading to internal bleeding. So make sure that you do not try this in your recipe even by mistake as this will put your dog to serious risk.

Chocolate

Like human beings dogs too enjoy chocolates but their system is not designed to handle the intake of chocolates. It must be totally avoided because it has a certain substance that is toxic dogs and the name of the substance that is toxic is theobromine.

Honey

Your dog will love honey because of its sweet taste but very little does it know that it is not good for its health. However, as a well informed owner of your pet you should not include honey in any of your dog’s recipes. Also you must not allow your dog to take honey separately.

Alcohol

This is another great killer. Though wine and sherry bring great flavor to food they can be lethal to your dog as your dog’s digestive system is not designed to handle alcohol.

These are not the only food items that you should avoid. There is whole lot of other things that you should avoid in canine food. We may not be having complete knowledge about the food items to be avoided. So to be on the safer side in stead of cooking your dog food you can opt for equally tasty natural dog food such as Flint River Ranch Natural dog food so that you don’t have to worry about what to give or what to avoid in your dog food recipe.

A Purrrfect Life

I never had any pets growing up and I was quite fine with that. So when my son asked if he could have a kitten, I said no quite hastily. I did not stop to think that, just because I had been fine without pets growing up that he would be as well. So, I decided to take him out to a pet supplies store, so we could at least take a look at the kittens.

That was it. We came home with a kitten. I have never seen him so happy, and so far, he has lived up to his responsibility of taking care of the cat. He changes the cat litter on a regular basis, because he knows I won’t do it and if he doesn’t the cat has to go. He is very good about it and I have yet to complain about the care of his new pet.

I went to a local craft sale and saw some great crafted pet dishes and bought some for my son’s cat. I want him to know that I am at least making an effort to love this furry little creature that has taken over our home. Although I can’t admit it out loud, it is also taking over my heart.

Dog beds the only one that can be “just wiped clean”

With so many dog beds available in the market, buying dog beds can be confusing and an often frustrating experience. What makes choosing dog beds difficult is that dogs cannot let the owner know exactly what they like/dislike about the dog beds.  Choosing a dog bed is not rocket science either, and the following points should be considered while buying dog beds:
Taken into account the size of the dog
Dog beds come in various sizes, and it is important that you find a dog bed that is just right for your dog.  Dogs will only use their dog bed if they are comfortable in the bed and it is vital that the bed be neither too large nor too small for your dog. In essence, try and find a dog bed that can give your dog a ‘snug’ fit.
Consider the health of your dog
Dogs suffering from arthritis or ill health are usually prescribed special orthopedic dog beds. Make sure you observe the ‘style’ and comfort level of your dog, if you are not sure if your dog needs an orthopedic dog bed, consult a vet.
Check the filling of the dog bed
Dogs have a tendency of clawing and chewing at their dog beds (especially younger dogs); make sure the dog bed you buy is refillable. Most dog beds use foam or cedar fill (which repels fleas), both of which can be refilled if required.
Check the durability of the bed
The ideal dog bed should be resistant to urine and should be easily washable. Most dog beds available in the market support disposable or ‘easy clean’ coverings, but only the Dura-Bull TM dog bed can actually be washed off using a hose and is perhaps the only dog bed that can be  “wiped clean” in the true sense of the word.
Look for an ergonomic dog bed
Although most dog beds claim to be ergonomic and comfortable, it is important to pay close attention to your pet to know if your dog is truly comfortable. What is equally important is the design of the dog bed. It is easy to get carried away by the looks of a dog bed, but the bed should match the décor of the room in which the dog will be sleeping (this will help the dog get accustomed to the dog bed).
Look for ‘healthy’ materials
The biggest concern with dog owners is that their dog should live in sanitary conditions. While choosing a dog bed it is vital to ensure that dog bed is resistant to water and urine, and is made from materials that are resistant to fleas. Newer dog beds like the Dura-Bull TM dog bed are easy to clean, and are made from new age materials that are resistant to fleas and other biological agents. To ensure greater resistance to bacteria and other biological agents, it is important that the dog bed be quick drying and made from resistant materials.
The Dura-Bull TM dog bed
The Dura-Bull TM dog bed is a patent pending dog bed made from Rip-stop vinyl fabric. The Dura-Bull TM dog bed is made from pliable memory foam and is ergonomically designed for greater comfort. One of the most impressive features of the Dura-Bull TM dog bed is that it is the only dog bed that can be wiped clean. Urine and other dirt can be hosed of easily and the bed’s quick drying material ensures the bed is ready to use in no time. Unlike other dog beds that have removable sheets (that can be replaced and cleaned), the Dura-Bull TM dog bed is far easier to clean and does not require any additional sheets.  In addition the Dura-Bull TM dog bed is made from pest resistant fabrics and is resistant to fleas.
