I will be the first to say that my wife works very hard.  Not only does she hold down a full time job, but she is raising three children, and somehow she just seems to have the energy to do it.  I help out too, but I would have to give her most of the credit - she does an amazing job.

Even though I thank her each and every day for what she does for us, sometimes, I just feel that it isn’t enough to just say it to her.  In fact, I have been thinking that I would get her something special as a thank you for all the hard work that she has done.

So, I have bought her a gift certificate for a day spa that will pamper her for an entire day and let her have some time off to relax.  I haven’t bought her anything like this before, but I know that she will appreciate the gift - I would dare to say that it is the perfect gift for my wife.

For those of you out there that know my mother there’s one thing that she does that bugs me.  She will never get rid of a partially broken item as long as it still sort of works.  A good example of this would be her potato fork that has two tines that are broken that she will not replace.

I try to make a point of replacing any half broken items that I find in her house.  I bought her new spoons, new cookie sheets, and even a new toaster oven.  She always asks me why I bother replacing her "perfectly good" stuff with something new instead of being thankful for what she does have.  No matter what answer I give her, she always just rolls her eyes at me.

Last time I was at her house, I made sure to check the gardening tools to make sure that none of them needed to be replaced.  As it turns out, I am going to buy her a new shovel and a new lawnmower(it seems to be missing a wheel).  I’ll give them to her as a gift for her birthday.  That way, she won’t be able to say no.

I was shocked and amazed at Mother’s Day last year. It has never been a really big thing around here. I always get the little cards and gifts that the kids make me at school, but there is never anything beyond that. I have never complained, though, as those cards and gifts have always meant a lot to me and I know the kids have always put their hearts into them.

This year, however, I was awoken to breakfast in bed. What a surprise to wake up to the smell of waffles and whipped cream. It was absolutely delicious and I can honestly say that it is the first time that I have ever had breakfast in bed. It was wonderful. I didn’t realize what a great cook my husband was.

After I opened the gifts that the kids made me, my husband presented me with a gift. I was so surprised as this had never happened before. He had taken pictures of the kids and had them put the photos onto canvas. It was beautiful and it made me cry. I can honestly say that it was the best Mother’s Day ever and I have never been more in love with my husband than I was at that moment.

For my birthday this past year, I received an Ericksonian Hypnosis CD. I thought that this was a bit of an odd gift, but I decided to give it a listen. It was actually very interesting and it got me to thinking a lot more about hypnosis and what it could do for me and others. I actually used hypnosis, both to stop smoking and to make me feel better about myself and my body image.

I decided that I needed to know more about this Erickson guy and I did a bit of research. I learned a lot about underground hypnosis. I have to admit that I would have been one of the biggest skeptics, but I really believe in this and I believe in it’s abilities to heal people mentally.

I am now a firm believer and I go to a hypnotist every week, just because it makes me feel really good. I am so glad that I received that CD for my birthday. It started it all and I owe my friend a big thanks, but then he probably knows that because he can read minds.
