Taking the Classified Ads

employment No Comments »

I work a couple of days a week at a local newspaper as a receptionist.  Specifically, I am paid to take all the orders for classified ads for the paper that are received over the phone.  Depending on the day of the week, there are different ads that I receive.

For example, as it gets closer to the weekend, we receive a lot of land for sale ads.  In fact, that is what I love the most about my job.  You see, I find it really cool that I get to be the first to know what land investment deals are available before the public knows.  It is almost like I have insider information and know before everyone else.

Today, I was able to find out about a UK land deal today that I looked into.  Sure, it was a bit out of my price range, but I was able to show the deal to a buddy of mine, who might invest in it.  Yes, I do love my job.

Ordering Stock for the Store

For a part time job, I work at a costume store.  Honestly, I don’t find the job to be work at all, but rather an adventure.  I feel that it is this way as I am allowed to try on all the costumes we carry, and I have dressed up as some weird things in the short time that I have been there.

But today, I found myself ordering stock for Halloween.  I know that it is far away, but we want to make sure that we have adequate stock for the store to meet the demand of our customers.

Of particular interest will be the Jetsons Halloween Costumes that I have ordered for the store.  The few that we carried last year went like hot cakes, so it was a good decision for us to carry more.

As we get closer to Halloween, we will also order other costumes, but for now, I just have to submit the order for the core costumes that we will be carrying then.

First Job Jitters

My Uncle Danny asked me to come and work for him for the summer. That was really great, as jobs are hard to come by in this town. It is especially hard to get a summer job, as there are so many students who want to work and there is so little work available.

I was a little bit scared on my first day, as it was a really large company and everything about it was run so precisely. I was scared that I would mess up, and being that it was my first job, I wanted to be professional and make a really good first impression on everyone in the warehouse.

I worried too much. My first duty was to help unload a pallet of skid steer tracks. It was hard and the tracks were very heavy, but I managed and I was even told that I was doing a good job and that I was a quick learner. The summer flew by so fast that I barely had time to spend the money that I earned. I can’t wait to go back next year, now that I know exactly what I am doing.

Stocking the Shelves for Summer

A few years ago, I used to work at a camping supplies store at a lake north of where I live.  This lake is a big tourist attraction and is one of the busiest lakes in our province.  At the time, I thought it would be a great opportunity to have a paid vacation at a place that I love.

The job had great wages and they supplied accommodations for you.  Usually you get worried when the accommodations are supplied, but they were better than I would’ve thought.  In some respects it was like a dream come true and it was very nice to spend each day at the beach.

My first task on my first day at work was to stock out the summer camping supplies including the signature wall tents that we sold.  I don’t think that I had done that much physical labor in my life!  Getting adjusted to the amount of work that I was expected to do was tough, but the nights at the beach were sure worth it.

Even though it was my only summer working at the lake, I have memories from the that will last a lifetime.

Dead End Job

Real Estate, employment No Comments »

It was a Friday afternoon when the realization finally struck me. It was no more than my friends had been telling me for months, but it was something that I had to figure out for myself. I was, indeed, stuck in a dead end job and would not go any further in my life if I stayed here. It was a sad, sad realization, but I knew that I was ready to do something about it.

I did not necessarily want to go back to school, but I wanted to find myself a career in which I could advance as far as I wanted to go and that no one could dictate when I was finished climbing the corporate ladder. In other words, I wanted to be the one in control of me. I wanted to be the one who said that I had made enough money in a particular month.

I guess that is also when I realized that I wanted a career in real estate. I knew that if I got into this, I could work as much or as little as I wanted and that I was more in control of my future job destiny than I would be in any other job that I chose to do. I knew that I could do well, and I took the steps to get the ball rolling.
